In order to understand what the Bob Kermavner Foundation stands for, it's important to learn about Bob Kermavner – the man and his legacy.  Bob Kermavner was born February 3, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio.  He grew up in Euclid before moving to Willowick.  He remained a loyal resident of Willowick from 1967 until his untimely death in 2007.

His contributions to the community were countless as he volunteered on the Willowick Police Auxiliary, Willowick Football Association and Willowick Jaycees (where he was instrumental in the fundraising and purchase of the first Willowick Fire Department’s ambulance).  In addition, he was a member of the Willowick Exhausted Roosters, the Willowick Invitational, YASCO, Indian Guides and North High School Boosters & Band Boosters.  He remained an active volunteer for the athletic and band boosters for the simple pleasure of helping others.  It didn't matter to him that his two sons had graduated some fifteen to twenty years prior.  You could always count on him flipping burgers at the home games and selling popcorn at the band's concession stand.

In addition to his love for working with youths, Bob didn’t discriminate against age.  He was also known to be one of "Santa’s helpers" as each year he would dress up as Santa and randomly visit retirement and nursing homes to spread holiday cheer for some people who had nobody but him to put a smile on their faces.

Sadly his life ended too short as he passed away on March 16, 2007 after his courageous 3-month battle with cancer.  It was the very next day that our family decided to continue his legacy; thus keeping a part of him alive.   As a way of preserving Bob Kermavner’s memory and his commitment to the community, our family created The Bob Kermavner Scholarship Fund.  This scholarship was established to recognize students who have exemplified a commitment in community service; thus, preserving Bob’s name while continuing his tradition.  The Bob Kermavner Scholarship will include three recipients in 2011.

Three $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to seniors from Wickliffe and Willoughby-Eastlake School
Districts.
